My Treatment and idea(Not the idea we went for)
Introduction - STill Around
1.1 Premise
Still Around is a short story based about a tomb raider looking to make his riches deep in a Mayan tomb. But the reward he is searching for seeks to claim more than just the tomb raiders life.
1.2 Treatment
The theme for 'Still Around' revolves around immortality and reincarnation, where the main character is shown the deaths of his former lives and the future in store as the last of his life is sapped from him by a jewel of unknown power, and he joins the ghosts of past and future.
'Still Around' is a music video for the song by Johnny Cash, "highwayman" and will concentrate on giving meaning to the lyrics in an animation that tells a story of its own.
The animation will last between 3-4 minutes. The target audience is the music video audience as this animation is a music video.
The animation will be completely 3D, with stylised characters similar to that of the movie 'Tangled'. It will rely heavily on the dingy environments. Darker colours will be used predominantly throughout the animation and it covers several locations that will use slightly different colour palettes to show their uniqueness whilst maintaining the same overall atmosphere.
1.2.1 Synopsis
A successful tomb raider has finally reached the end of a very long journey, and is being confronted by the final challenge this particular tomb has to offer. A giant ruby, like none he's ever seen before, rests on a pedestal and beckons to him. What he doesn't realise is that he is not alone. The gem, with help from ghosts, shows the man his past and future selves as he struggles to overcome this final challenge and learn just what the gem is telling him.
Outline
1.1 Tomb
The tomb raider bursts into the room from a corridor as a boulder rushes by, kicking up layers of dust as he goes. He immediately regains his bearings and looks around.
As its dark he cracks glow sticks and throws them around, giving the place an eerie green lighting.
He begins to dust himself off as he spots the giant ruby on the pedestal, his mouth opening in wonder
He walks towards the gem, reaching forwards with his right hand, just as he reaches it he is stopped when the large face of the ruby begins to glow and the music begins to play.
He is transfixed by the glow as his eyes are lit up by the gem.
1.2 Hangman's noose
A man is standing, hands bound under the noose, as it is brought to his level and placed around his neck. He sings to the lyrics of the highwayman verse.
As he tells his tale, a faint vision of his sword and pistol appears to one side.
A lady being held up is seen momentarily on the other side.
Bodies appear faintly around the man's feet. The bodies of soldiers.
As he speaks of the hanging, the trapdoor underneath him is removed
1.3 Tomb
The tomb raider is completely transfixed with the display, a look of horror upon him. Looking over his shoulder is the dead highwayman from the image in the gem. It sings the last line of the verse and quickly disperses into the background like dust.
1.4 Ocean
A ship is tossed and turned by the waves, as a group of sailors work hard to furl the sails.
The central one appears to be singing to the lyrics.
He works quickly to pull the mainsail and begins to tie it off.
The ship tips heavily from a particularly big wave.
A rope snaps and the backlash knocks him from the mast.
1.5 Tomb
Still caught in the ruby's light, the tomb raider does not notice as the ghostly sailor speaks over his other shoulder and quickly disperses.
1.6 Dam
A man is standing by the concrete mixer leaning on his spade.
The concrete begins pouring into an unfinished part of the dam.
He is singing the third verse.
A gust of wind knocks him from his place down into the concrete
1.7 Tomb
The dam builders ghost sings the last of his verse and quickly disperses
1.8 Space
A captain on a spaceship is looking out the window at the earth.
He is singing the spaceship verse.
The vast ship swiftly moves away from earth and he begins to become a distant figure.
1.9 Tomb
The light of the Ruby finally begins to fade as the 4 ghosts cluster around the tomb raider.
The light in his eyes are gone and he falls backwards to the floor.
Light glistens from his body as his ghost pulls itself free to join those others that are reaching out to him to take him to the beyond.
As they grip hands, the entire group disperses and darkness falls.
